Carolina Wineries

The first commercial Carolina winery, Medoc Vineyard, led the country's wine production in 1835. 100 years later, North Carolina is rebuilding its grape industry and bringing futures for its farmers and citizens. Today, North Carolina is home to 50 wineries and 3 vineyard-located tasting rooms.

North Carolina ranks 10th in the states for grape production and 12th for wine production. Growers in the Mountains and Piedmont have grown traditional European grape varieties, and French-American Hybrids. Commonly planted grapes include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Chambourcin, Chardonnay, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling.

A rise of native Muscadine grapes is due to being relatively pest resistant and for thriving in the hot sandy conditions of the Coastal Plain. Muscadines contain high levels of Resveratrol and other health-enhancing antioxidants. So drink a glass of Carolina wine for your health.
